A barndominium on a wooded lot in northern Michigan, where the working half of the building sits at grade and the living half rises above it. Two garage bays, a shop, and the mechanical room occupy the ground floor. Upstairs, 1,215 square feet holds a vaulted great room that opens through a wall of glass onto a deck in the treetops, with two bedrooms tucked beneath the dormers. Dark stained lap siding, a standing-seam roof, and a shingled chimney keep the building quiet against the birch and pine.
